Tennessee Assisted Living
Even if assisted living communities are filled with caring and loving staff, and ample opportunities to make new friends through scheduled activities most seniors still find the adjustment to a new living situation difficult. Many seniors are used to their routines and relocating to an assisted living home changes those aspects. Doing the move with a beloved pet can help ease the transition.
Pet Friendly Assisted Living in Tennessee - General Amenities
Staff that work at assisted living facilities in Tennessee do everything possible to help make a move to a new community seamless. It is why the facilities endorse socialization in the dining hall during meal times. It is why multiple activities are scheduled each day.
Regardless of these opportunities to feel more comfortable and make new friends, many seniors still feel withdrawn and not very communicative. Pets are the common link that connect us all.
When they are involved in private residences and certain activities they can help bring senior citizens together. It can help reduce anxiety and fear of meeting new people with a common interest.
Outside of the opportunity to live with a cat, and maybe dog depending on the facility, pet friendly assisted living homes in Tennessee are comparable to other types of assisted living. The same amenities apply including daily meal servings, housekeeping assistance, transportation assistance, medication management, and around the clock employed staff.
Pet Friendly Amenities in Tennessee Assisted Living Facilities
When you visit different assisted living homes if you already live with a pet it is important to ask questions about their policies regarding pets. If the facility does allow cats and/or dogs you should then inquire about various amenities that are provided.
While it is nice that more assisted living complexes are allowing pets than ever before just giving that right is not enough. There should also be measures in place that help pets feel comfortable and safe within the facility. The same standards apply to outside on the grounds of the facility.
One of the most common amenities for pets at senior living homes is an outdoor dog park and area reserved for pets. Dogs in particular need room to go outside and explore. Here they can exercise and use the restroom. Designating a space outside for pets and fencing in the area is a nice feature. Please just make sure to clean up after your pet.
Secondly, the facility may have some in-house pet amenities. For example, some of the more luxurious assisted living centers provide a pet spa. Pet grooming services can get a pet looking up to par. Staff may also help with animals whether it is taking them for a walk or checking up on them while a resident is away for the day.
Assisted Living with Pets in Tennessee - Different Types of Pet Policies
Please check with the facility to get the exact details of what all the provider supports. Each assisted living community has different rules regarding pets. The rules may include things as to where animals are not allowed in the property (i.e. dining hall) and other regulations like a pet curfew.
Expect to pay more for having a pet. Most facilities charge a pet deposit at the time of signing the lease. The deposit is sometimes refundable and other times non-refundable.
